How to search for jobs with ChatGPT or Claude

To search for jobs from ChatGPT or Claude, connect a job platform so the assistant reads live listings. Indeed publishes a ChatGPT app and a beta Claude connector, and Dice publishes an MCP server for tech jobs. All three search, and none applies. Can ChatGPT or Claude help with a job search without a connector?

Yes, for planning. Paste your resume and ask ChatGPT or Claude for a plan, not for listings. An assistant without a connector cannot see a job index. With web search turned on it reads whatever pages a search engine returns, which is a different thing from a job board's live inventory. Use it for the parts that need judgment:

Here is my resume. List ten job titles I could apply for next,
from closest fit to biggest stretch. For each, give the
keywords an employer would use in the listing and one gap in
my resume a hiring manager would ask about.

Write three search queries for each title, one narrow and one
broad, that I can paste into a job board. Include the
location filter: remote in the US.

Which job platforms publish connectors for ChatGPT and Claude?

How do you add Indeed to Claude?

In claude.ai or Claude Desktop, open Search and tools.
Choose Add connectors and pick Indeed.

Fill in your Indeed profile first, since the app works from it.
Find Indeed in ChatGPT's app directory and click Connect.

What prompts work for job search with a connector?

Give the assistant your limits first, then ask it to explain each result, so you can check its reasoning against the listing.

Search for senior backend roles, remote in the US, posted in
the last week. Skip staffing agencies. For each result, quote
the two requirements that match my resume and the one I'm
weakest on.

Compare these three listings on pay, seniority and the
team's stack. Which one should I apply to first, and why?

When a connector can apply, read the application it built before you confirm. Check the resume version it attached, any answers to the employer's questions, and the role it is going to.

A job search connector passes some of your profile to the assistant. Indeed's ChatGPT app shares your name, city and state, summary, work history, education, skills and job preferences. Indeed says it does not share your contact details or application history with OpenAI.⁹ Read each connector's own page for its rules before you sign in, and remove a connector you no longer use.
